SPinV navigation and information platform

SPinV offers a wide range services to mobile users in indoor environments, from simple point-to-point walking instructions between geographic locations, to real-time turn-by-turn navigation based on user position tracking, to dynamic path selection based on user preferences/requirements and information on the surrounding environment (e.g.: select the least crowded route at rush hour to the place where the event of interest for the user is taking place).

The SPinV  platform relies on three key enabling elements:

  1. A dynamic database associating each physical location in the building served by the system to the events and functions taking place in such location, as well as the presence in the location of people of objects of interest (e.g.: presence of a physician or of a medical equipment in a given room);
  2. An infrastructure for indoor wireless positioning of people and objects of interest, based on the combination of different technologies;
  3. An advanced user interface allowing the user to input information requests and showing the corresponding output. The interface will take advantage of technologies for speech recognition for user input and speech synthesis for user guidance, and will combine them with a visual indication of the proposed route based on 2D and 3D visualizations. The interface is designed so to be available on all major platforms and Operative Systems via browser, but specific, enhanced versions propose to take advantage of the features available on specific platforms (e.g. release as native application for iOS and Android devices).
