Some history

The Cloister is adjacent to the homonymous Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, best known for being the home of Michelangelo’s statue of Moses, part of the tomb of Pope Julius II. The basilica, built in the 5th century, holds the chains that are believed to be the ones that bound St. Peter when he was held captive in Mamertine Prison.
