IEEE 1900.7™ Working Group ( WG) is starting to develop a draft standard IEEE P1900.7 for Radio Interface for White Space Dynamic Spectrum Access Radio Systems Supporting Fixed and Mobile Operation. The scope of the IEEE P1900.7 is as follows:
- This standard specifies a radio interface including medium access control (MAC) sublayer(s) and physical (PHY) layer(s) of white space dynamic spectrum access radio systems supporting fixed and mobile operation in white space frequency bands, while avoiding causing harmful interference to incumbent users in these frequency bands.
- The standard provides means to support IEEE P1900.4a™ for white space management and IEEE P1900.6™ to obtain and exchange sensing related information (spectrum sensing and geolocation information).
All interested parties are invited to participate in the IEEE 1900.7 WG. The meetings of the WG are scheduled as follows:
- FIRST MEETING: September 29-30, 2011 - Berlin, Germany - SECOND MEETING: December 12-14, 2011 - Scottsdale, AZ, USA
IEEE 1900.7 WG is sponsored by the Standards Committee of the IEEE Communications Society and is part of the IEEE Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks (DySPAN) Committee.
All information related to DySPAN Committee and IEEE 1900.7 WG can be found at: http://www.dyspan-sc.org/

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The second York-Zhejiang Summer School on Cognitive Communications will take place from 12 - 16 September 2011 at University of York, York, UK. The central aim is to bring together up to 80 like-minded research active individuals to explore the ever-growing field of Cognitive Communications, which encompasses cognitive radio, cognitive networks, and application of cognition to other aspects of communications systems. This follows on from the first York-Zhejiang Summer School in Cognitive Communications, which took place last year at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. This event attracted delegates from all over the world.
Supported by a team of six expert lecturers, the programme includes tutorials, providing an in-depth introduction to key topics, lectures dealing with more specialist techniques, workshops, one centred on a mini-project “a tech-fest” to be undertaken during the week, the other giving delegates hands on experience of tools and implementation. There will also be time for a short seminar and poster session, to allow delegates to display their current research in the area. Briefings of various relevant projects from around the world will also be given.
